The Scientific Study of Clay Target Shooting
Data "Collection". Doesn't sound like much fun does it? "Co...let...shun. Goes with some other words we don't love such as tax collection, plaque collects on our teeth, fat collects in our arteries, we collect trash, and my dog's hair collects on my sweater. But data are the life blood of ClayMetrics.
If I find my scores on post 5 suddenly drop, I can work with my coach to identify why and to design a solution, try it out, and see if the problem goes away. I can use a very simple approach or I can video tape my shooting and critique it with a panel of 5 experts . It doesn't matter, either way I first need to collect the data.
So if I need the data and it's not much fun and a lot of work to collect them, then & need someone or something to help me out.
For that reason, Clay Metrics has a serious commitment to making the process of data collection as painless as possible, part of the normal scorekeeping effort, and maybe, just maybe, even fun. With the growing prevalence of android phones and tablets, it was only a matter of time before some enterprising programmer came up with a way to record scores while at the field rather than keying them in on your home computer after you get ... well, home.
As of November 2013, there are quite a few from which to choose. Clay Shooting Scorecard is a good choice for one shooter at a time. For a full squad or team, my preference, my strong preference is Shotgun Scorecard . The price is right, features are plentiful and user interface is well thought out.
This product also facilitates capturing angle of target which is a remarkable breakthrough permitting a complete additional dimension in ClayMetrics. See (page under development) for a discussion of this point.
